I love food!
Yup, that about sums it up.
I love eating food. I love cooking food. I love grocery shopping. I love talking to the butcher or farmer about where their produce came from. I love seeing the passion and creativity that a chef uses to turn a few simple ingredients into a work of art. I love how I feel after eating a great meal with family and friends. Pretty much the only thing I don’t like about food is doing the dishes!
From a young age my mum instilled in me the importance of eating food that was good for you. And while I appreciate her efforts now, I was the only kid in my grade 1 class eating spelt instead of Wonder©bread, grapes instead of fruit roll-ups and water instead of milk. Hey, we can’t all be the cool kids! My dad got really into cooking when I was a teenager and it was inspiring to see him enjoy cooking up a storm for us (and a mess for our Mum). He was inspired at first by his Mom’s un-freakin-believable cooking, Emeril and then Mario Batali and a host of other Italians - my faja is Italian so it makes sense). It was refreshing to see an average Joe turn out some amazing dishes! I like to think my parents planted the seed way back then that would one day motivate me to go into nutrition - my Mum serving as the health-oriented side and my Dad as the one that first inspired my palate. What a killer combo!
I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and then graduated with honours from the Natural Nutrition program at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. I am also registered through the CANNP as a Natural Nutrition Coach. My schooling has given me a sound foundation of how the human body moves and works and how food can both benefit & heal, and harm your body. My job is to guide and educate you on the foods that do the healing and eliminate the ones that do the harming.
I hope to inspire people to take notice of what they’re putting in their bodies - we only have one so why do it a disservice by loading it full of junk? While I’m at it, I’d like to dispel the myth that eating well is boring or a chore and revolutionize how we look at food (world domination soon to follow). I’m passionate about living green and staying in tune with the earth, local and organic foods, “happy” meats, and meals cooked with love.
